Matterport 3D Digital Capture

NEW SERVICE

Matterport Virtual Tours for Construction

Replace (or strengthen) monthly progress photos with an interactive, hosted 3D record of your project—captured on site, viewable anywhere, and useful long after handover.

  • Clarity: immersive 3D + Dollhouse view for instant orientation
  • Consistency: repeatable capture at agreed milestones
  • Evidence: a time-stamped visual record to support QA, audits and handover

Why Matterport on a construction project?

Matterport creates a navigable “digital twin” from on-site capture. Unlike a folder of photos, stakeholders can orient themselves quickly (including with Dollhouse view), revisit what was installed and where, and understand progress without being physically on site.

Progress reporting that people actually use

If you’re currently doing monthly progress photos, a recurring Matterport scan can become the visual “spine” of your report—walkable, consistent, and easy to share with dispersed teams.

Reduce rework, speed up decisions

A digital twin helps remote stakeholders verify what’s been done, check access constraints, and answer basic “what’s on site right now?” questions faster—especially valuable on busy live environments like schools and hospitals.

Stronger handover outcomes

Captured spaces can support as-built understanding and future works. Matterport workflows also support outputs used in construction documentation / as-built contexts (capability varies by plan and workflow).

Recommended capture stages

  1. Baseline / pre-start (where relevant): existing conditions or enabling works record for refurbishment or occupied estates.
  2. During construction (repeatable cadence): monthly (or key milestones) to align with progress reporting.
  3. Pre-close-up milestones: before ceilings/risers/services are concealed (MEP first fix, plant rooms, etc.).
  4. Pre-handover / at PC: a clean, navigable record of completed spaces to support training, operations, and future maintenance.

Tip: For complex assets (hospitals, schools, labs), we can propose a capture schedule that mirrors your QA / ITP gates.

Upgrade option: Mattertags linked to O&M and live data

Mattertags allow information to be pinned to locations within the 3D model—useful for pointing users to certificates, manufacturer literature, commissioning records, as-built drawings, or even external systems.

Golden thread-style navigation (practical, not painful)

Instead of hunting through folders, users click the asset location and open the right document. This can support faster FM response and fewer “where is it?” queries.

Commissioning & compliance evidence

Link test certs, O&M extracts, datasheets, and as-builts to the exact room/plant location—ideal for audits, defects, and warranty periods.

IoT dashboards (where available)

If your client has BMS/IoT dashboards, Mattertags can point to those live views (links/embeds subject to the platform involved and permissions).

Why Riddell PM?

We’re documentation people first

Our day job is handover information: O&M Manuals, asset registers, PPM schedules, and user guides. That means we capture tours with the end in mind—making them useful for project teams now, and FM teams later.

  • Capture plan aligned to your programme and reporting cycle
  • Clear naming, versioning and information structure
  • Optional Mattertags structured to mirror your O&M / asset data

Low-friction delivery

We can work as a discreet add-on to your existing progress reporting, or as a formal deliverable. You choose what’s shared, with whom, and when.

Typical outputs: hosted tour link(s), 4K stills extracted for reports, and an agreed tag schedule (if required).

FAQs

Can this replace monthly progress photos?

Often yes, or at least materially reduce them. A repeatable scan gives stakeholders a consistent way to compare month-on-month progress, and you can still export key stills for traditional reports if needed.

Is it suitable for schools and hospitals?

Yes—especially where access is constrained, stakeholders are distributed, or you need a strong record for handover and FM. We can agree privacy/permissioning and capture timing to suit the environment.

Can we link O&M documents to rooms or assets?

Yes. Mattertags can link to documents, webpages and other resources—useful for certificates, datasheets and as-built information.

What do we receive at the end?

Typically: hosted tour link(s), agreed still images for reporting, and (if specified) an organised set of tags linking to your handover information. Additional exports/workflows depend on the required outcome.
