Across Scotland, any waste, which cannot otherwise be recycled, can now be diverted from landfill and transformed into low carbon electricity, with the Dunbar Energy Recovery Facility (ERF).
Viridor, a recycling and waste management specialist, contracted to build the ERF with technology specialist Babcock & Wilcox Vølund (BWV) and construction giant Interserve.
The £177m facility at Oxwellmains generates 258GWh of base-load renewable energy direct to the grid – the equivalent of 39 wind turbines – enough to continuously power 70,656 homes. Additionally, the facility will also provide 10MW of heat, available for local use.
It will can process up to 300,000 tonnes of rubbish per annum – which will come from all over the country by rail.
A bespoke visitor centre is also onsite to help teach children and interested adults about sustainable waste management and how energy recovery fits into the waste hierarchy.
Interserve with contracted Riddell PM to manage the full production of all O&M Manuals for the Civil and Building Services Work Packages following Viridor’s Employers Requirements and presented in an individual Work Package Manual basis.
