The Malmaison Hotel Dundee is an upmarket boutique hotel situated in the city’s historic waterfront area. Formerly the vacant Tay Hotel, a listed city centre landmark building constructed in 1889, it had been in a poor condition for many years.
Principal Contractor Interserve, the international support services and construction group, was contracted to carry out an extensive restoration to dramatically return the building back to its former purpose.
The new international-standard hotel now has 91 bedrooms and suites across its four floors, a bar and lounge area and a restaurant with a private dining room. A luxurious 23.5 carat gold gilded finial and crown dome tops off the roof.
£7 million works included repair and refurbishment of the external envelope of the property. Internally, structural demolitions and alterations were required to provide the basic layouts and spaces necessary to accommodate the new hotel proposals. New lifts and new external fire escape
